That very same year she was hired as an entry-level employee at a restaurant called An American Place for one year. However, Guarnaschelli's cooking experience began when she watched her mother experiment with various recipes in her kitchen while editing cookbooks. Her culinary experience began when she observed her mom test recipes at home as she edited cookbooks. Guarnaschelli was later appointed executive chef at Butter. Guarnaschelli was a contestant in 2007's Farmers Market Battle, a segment of Food Network's Iron Chef America, where she took on Cat Cora. The following year, she was a contestant in the third place of the season in The Next Iron Chef, and she has served as on the panel for the show from the beginning. In addition, she competed in The Food Network Challenge Ultimate Thanksgiving Feast which she lost. She was promoted to sous-chef for Iron Chef Geoffrey Zakarian following the 4th season of The Next Iron Chef. In 2008, she was host of The Food Network show The Cooking Loft. Alex Guarnaschelli.
